Your stories stay between you

Privacy isn't a feature we added. It's the foundation we built on.

Most apps treat privacy as a settings page. OurTurn treats it as an architectural decision. There is no “make this public” button because there is no public. There is no “share to social” because there is no social. The app exists for exactly two people at a time, writing in a space that belongs to them.

Our commitments

Stories are couple-only

Every database query is scoped by couple membership. There is no API endpoint, admin panel, or backdoor that exposes story content to anyone outside the couple.

No public profiles

There are no usernames, no profile pages, no follower counts. Your account exists solely to authenticate you to your partner's shared space.

No content in notifications

Email and push notifications tell your partner it's their turn. They never include story text, titles, or any content preview.

Server-side enforcement

All access control, boundary enforcement, and consent validation happens on the server. The client is never trusted with permissions — even if someone tampers with the frontend, the backend blocks unauthorized access.

No AI training on your content

AI features (suggestions, rewrites, recaps) process your text ephemerally. We do not store raw AI prompts by default, and your writing is never used to train models.

Data minimization

We log only the metadata necessary for the app to function — couple creation, turn submission timestamps, consent events. We don't track reading behavior, session duration, or engagement metrics.

Exportable, deletable

You can export your completed stories as HTML or PDF at any time. Your data is yours. If you want to leave, you can leave — we don't make it hard.

No ads, no tracking, no third-party analytics

OurTurn has no advertising, no third-party analytics scripts, no tracking pixels, and no data broker partnerships. We don't monetize your attention or your data.

Consent is revocable, always

For intimate writing modes, consent isn't a one-time checkbox.

Either partner can opt out of MIM or CFEM modes at any time, instantly blocking new turns in stories of that mode. No explanation required. No waiting period. No “are you sure?” dark pattern.

Re-accepting restores the mode. The power is always symmetric — neither partner has more control than the other.

In CFEM mode, each partner sets their own boundaries across 12 categories. The app merges them automatically, using the most restrictive level between partners. Hard limits are enforced at the server before content is ever saved or shown. Conditional boundaries create a gate — the reader must explicitly consent before viewing.

Write freely. We're not watching.

Your stories are between you and your partner. Period.
