1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using OurTurn (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to use OurTurn. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older. OurTurn is not intended for use by anyone under 18.

3. Account & Authentication

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. OurTurn uses email-based magic link authentication. You agree to provide a valid email address and to keep your access secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account.

4. Acceptable Use

OurTurn is a private, turn-based writing platform for couples and small groups. You agree to use the Service only for its intended purpose: collaborative creative writing.

You may not use OurTurn to:

  • Create content depicting or involving minors in any sexual or harmful context
  • Create content depicting non-consensual sexual activity or coercion
  • Create content depicting exploitation, bestiality, or incest
  • Harass, threaten, or intimidate your writing partner(s)
  • Circumvent or attempt to bypass the consent and boundary systems
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Share, distribute, or publish another user's content without their consent
  • Attempt to access stories or data belonging to other users

5. Consent & Boundaries

OurTurn provides consent-aware writing modes with configurable boundaries. These tools are designed to support safe, consensual creative expression between partners. While the platform enforces boundaries server-side, you agree that mutual respect and communication with your partner are your responsibility. Technology cannot replace human consent — it can only support it.

6. Content Ownership

You retain full ownership of all content you create on OurTurn. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your stories or writing. You grant OurTurn a limited license to store, display, and process your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you and your writing partner(s).

7. AI Features

OurTurn offers optional AI-powered writing assistance (suggestions, rewrites, recaps). AI is assistive only — it does not write turns, submit content, or override boundaries on your behalf. You are solely responsible for all content you submit, including content derived from AI suggestions. AI-processed text is handled ephemerally and is not used for model training.

8. Privacy

Your privacy is fundamental to OurTurn. Stories are visible only to the couple or group that created them. We do not sell, share, or use your content for advertising or model training. We do not include story content in notifications. For full details, see our Privacy page.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, particularly the prohibited content provisions. You may stop using the Service at any time. We recommend exporting any stories you wish to keep before closing your account.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

OurTurn is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We are not liable for any loss of content — please export important stories regularly.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, OurTurn and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service (currently $0, as OurTurn is free).

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or through the Service. Your continued use of OurTurn after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
